Defining Torture

According to Article 1 of the UN Convention against Torture, torture is any act by which severe pain or suffering, whether physical or mental, is intentionally inflicted on a person for purposes such as obtaining information or a confession, punishment, intimidation, coercion, or discrimination, when inflicted by or at the instigation of a public official.

About Rehabilitation

Rehabilitation of torture survivors requires a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach that addresses the physical, psychological, social, and legal dimensions of trauma. Evidence-based methods including CBT, EMDR, and narrative therapy are combined with medical treatment and social reintegration support.

RCTV Memoria conducts training programs for professionals working with torture survivors, including healthcare workers, psychologists, social workers, legal professionals, and law enforcement officials. Our trainings cover trauma-informed care, Istanbul Protocol application, and EMDR techniques.
